About Los Gatos

Los Gatos is located in the South Bay, part of the San Francisco Bay area, near San Jose. The town can be found off Highway 17 (known as "the hill" to locals) as the highway begins to climb into the Santa Cruz Mountains. It was once home to John Steinbeck who described it as "so beautiful I am embarrassed to live here". Los Gatos covers approximately 12 square miles and has a population of 28,478 persons (1995). The slow growth of the town over an extended number of years has left the town with a heritage of older, established residential areas in the town's history.
